Isabel Kester - Bio
Isabel Kestner is a poet and writer who spent half her life in New Jersey and half in Virginia, making her an odd blend of Southern Woman and Jersey Girl. Her poems and writings gracefully reach into the darkest chasms of life and frequently offer glimpses of the hidden beauty within the darkness. Isabel is a self taught poet and writer with no academic training. Her poetry and stories stem from a life spent in the shadows among the cast out and socially exiled.
At the age of 35, Isabel emerged from an eight year absence of writing. During the years where she had no words she felt an emptiness like nothing she had ever know. Much of her current work expresses the emptiness of a life without expression, passion, poetry, beauty and the need to reconnect the soul with the heart of the world. She reflects often on the necessity of a meaningful vocabulary.
She has periodically published her poetry in literary magazines and anthologies since the age of seventeen. Publications include Mad Swirl, Writers Exchange, Avatar Review, Poetalk, Poetic Eloquence, Tight, Handful of Stones, and many others.
Her first full collection of poetry, Strange Things She Heard, was released in 2009.
